Visit to the incinerator of Neder-Over-Heembeek

The crucial role of the incinerator of Neder-Over-Heembeek in waste management in Brussels

The incinerator of Neder-Over-Heembeek, located in Brussels, Belgium, is an essential facility for waste processing in the region. During my visit on April 12, I was able to learn more about the waste incineration process and meet the dedicated teams of Brussels-Propreté responsible for collecting and managing waste.

Incinerating waste is a process where waste is burned at very high temperatures, usually around 850-1200 degrees Celsius. This process reduces the volume of waste and produces energy in the form of heat, which can be used to power district heating networks or generate electricity.

During the visit, I was able to observe up close the different steps of the incineration process, from waste reception to burning in the ovens, including the recovery of thermal energy. I was impressed by the efficiency and technical skill of the facilities, as well as the teams' commitment to handling waste in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

It was an enriching experience to meet the teams of Brussels-Propreté, as it gave me a better understanding of the challenges they face daily in managing waste in the city. Their work is essential to ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the urban environment, and I could see their professionalism and dedication to this task.

In conclusion, my visit to the incinerator of Neder-Over-Heembeek and my meeting with the teams of Brussels-Propreté have made me aware of the importance of responsible waste management for the preservation of our environment. It also reminded me of the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling our waste to limit our impact on the planet.
